"The Unofficial Start of Summer"

Hi Friends,

Yesterday was Memorial Day, and as you know, it is often called "the unofficial start of the summer season." What I want to know is if "the summer season" has started, officially or unofficially, why is it still only 58 degrees here at 12:33 pm?

This is one of life's great mysteries, some of which I have mentioned on previous posts, that just baffle me. Maybe that's why they call them mysteries. My fox terrier brain will never figure them out. Sheesh....

"Royal" Visit

Hi Friends,

Yesterday was a special day here in Mountain Top. We were graced with royalty. Stanley, the King of Gooberstan, and his girl servant, Lisa, stopped by for a visit and lunch on their way from Pittsburgh across Pennsylvania to Asta's house in New York.

I've never seen a king before. And I've never seen a dog as big as Stanley. He is so tall, he can almost open the door for himself. See, he can easily reach the door handle. Must be nice.

Soon after Stan and Lisa arrived we went for a walk around our neighborhood, 1/2 mile. Then Stan explored the house, which I let him do. But I made it perfectly clear to him, that while he may be the King of Gooberstan, I am the Queen of Koobieland, and he was in MY house.

Down boy!!

I think Stan was glad to leave Koobieland. Just look at how happy he is. Humph.

Good Bye, Sweet Poco. R. I. P.

HI Friends,

I'm crying because we lost one of our buddies, Poco, yesterday to kidney disease. It was so sudden.

Poco was the long-haired chihuahua who lived diagonally across the street. He was a real sweetheart of a little dog and his human mother, Anne, is devastated.

A couple years ago he developed kidney stones. They were removed and Poco was placed on a diet of cooked ground meat, rice, and bread crumbs. He thrived on this diet and was fine for a few years. Then over the weekend he got sick and stopped eating. Anne took him to the vet, they ran blood tests, etc., and found that his kidneys were "shot" and there was nothing that they could do to save poor little Poco. So, Anne, a retired nurse, made the heart-breaking decision to have him put to sleep. Anne and Poco were together for 13 years. It was just the two of them.

Rest in Peace, little Poco. We will miss you.

Way To Go, Rachel!

Congratulations, Rachel Alexandra!

Yesterday afternoon thorough-bred filly Rachel Alexandra easily beat all the boys in the 134th running of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. She led the entire race and did it without even reaching her full speed!

Way to go, Rachel!! What an emphatic statement you made! We girls LOVE YOU!

A Decision is Reached

Hi Friends,

As you know, I have been looking for a new secretary for the past week. There were many applicants for the job. After carefully interviewing each of them and thoroughly going over each of their references and resumes, I concluded that all of them were equally unqualified. Some of you suggested that I renegotiate with my mom and rehire her if no one better comes along. I consulted Grandpa, we brain-stormed about it and then we concluded that mom was probably the best choice after all. At least she can type and she knows how to turn the computer on. But you still have to give her treats in order to get her to work.

Well, that problem is solved. I can go back to my bully stick now.

Hiring Update

Hi Friends,

If you recall, last week I began my search for a new secretary to replace my mom since she had become lax in her blogging duties. I posted this ad.

As expected, the economy being what is it, I had a lot of responses. Here are the applicants that I have interviewed so far.

Poco
I live across the street from Koobie. I don't know how to type, but I am here for the treats and the walks. Sounds like the perfect job for me. I don't care about not getting a salary or health insurance. I just want treats.

Pokey
I live down the street from Koobie. I don't know how to type, but I am here for the treats and the walks. Sounds like the perfect job for me. I don't care about not getting a salary or health insurance. I just want treats.

Brady
I live down the street from Koobie. I don't know how to type, but I am here for the treats and the walks. Sounds like the perfect job for me. I don't care about not getting a salary or health insurance. I just want treats.

Riley
I live down the street from Koobie. I don't know how to type, but I am here for the treats and the walks. Sounds like the perfect job for me. I don't care about not getting a salary or health insurance. I just want treats.

Gracie
I live around the corner from Koobie. I don't know how to type, but I am here for the treats and the walks. Sounds like the perfect job for me. I don't care about not getting a salary or health insurance. I just want treats.

Sadie
I live down by the stop sign. I don't know how to type, but I am here for the treats and the walks. Sounds like the perfect job for me. I don't care about not getting a salary or health insurance. I just want treats.

Layla
I'm Koobie's kousin. I don't know how to type, but I am here for the treats and the walks. Sounds like the perfect job for me. I don't care about not getting a salary or health insurance. I just want treats.

Ginger
I'm Koobie's kousin, too. I don't know how to type, but I am here for the treats and the walks. Sounds like the perfect job for me. I don't care about not getting a salary or health insurance. I just want treats.

Anonymous
I'm not giving my name. I live down the street from Koobie. I don't want a job and I'm not applying. I just want Koobie's supper.

This is becoming very difficult for me. They are all so evenly unqualified. I still have several applicants to interview yet. They are outside waiting their turn. Maybe one of these candidates will stand out and win the job.

I want treats, but I also need an income so I can buy gas for my vehicle.

I want treats. Things are very slow in Atlantic City now, so I may have to relocate.

Treats? What treats?? I don't see any treats.

Treats? Did I hear treats?

We already have a job. We just came for the treats.

Treats? Who needs treats? A job? Not for me. No way...

Well everybody, these are my choices. This is such a hard decision. Agh!!!!!

I think that I'm going to need some help. Any suggestions?

Now Hiring

Hi Everybody,

After giving this a great deal of thought, I have decided to fire my secretary. It would seem like a no-brainer decision. After all, I haven't blogged in almost two weeks! And you know that's not me. For a while I really didn't know what to do about this. It is hard to fire your mom, especially in Mother's Day week. But, she hasn't been doing her job, and this cannot continue. She will have to be replaced. So, I am posting this announcement and I will be taking applications here on my blog. This is for the position of secretary only. She's an alright mom so I will be keeping her on in that capacity.
