Beating the Heat

Hi Friends,

Boy, has it been hot! This is my first summer and Mother (Molly) didn't tell me it would be like this. Being a fall-born dog (October) and a northerner, I am not used to this stuff. They tell me that there are things you could do to get some relief. One of them is to go for a swim. That's what my Kousin Koobus II used to do. He had his very own swimming pool.

Koobus II even had his own ocean. Here he is at the beach.

Kousin Koobus III just liked to hang around with his sun visor and at least look cool.

I don't have a sun visor, a swimming pool, or even an ocean. I guess I'll just have to sweat it out the hard way with a spot in the shade and a good bone.

The Morning After

Good Morning.....

OHHHHH,

I don't feel so good. I think I have a hang over. This 4th of July stuff is no fun for me with all that partying and all that noise. Last night I felt like I was in a war zone, and I'm not even in the army. And barking does not help. I barked as best as I could at the fireworks, but they still didn't stop. People call this fun? I just don't understand humans. This is one time that I'm sorry that my hearing is better than theirs. Next year I'm going to leave town for the 4th. Maybe I'll go to Philadelphia and visit Axel or New York and visit Asta, where it is nice and quiet on the 4th of July. They don't have fireworks in the big cities, do they?

Hi Everybody

Yawn! That was a nice nap. Oh, it's Monday again! Time to go back to sleep. Only kidding. I have a story for you.

Last Tuesday, when it was so hot, my family went here. This is called an adult playground. They have these machines there that you put your money in. The wheels on the machine spin around and stop. Then you put more money in. The wheels spin around and stop again. Then you put more money in, etc. When you are out of money, you go home. I'm glad I didn't go with them. I still have all my money, which is a considerable inheritance that I received from my three previous Uncle Koobuses (approximately $14.00). I'm not giving any of that away to watch reels spin. That doesn't seem like fun to me. I don't understand them.

They also have these things at the adult playground. I think they are called horses. The horses run around in ovals, pulling these silly little wagons with one guy in them. Each horse is wearing a different color hat. When they get close to the finish line, the humans start yelling. Then they take the winning horse's picture and everybody else goes back to the barn. This poor guy must have lost, since he was put out to pasture and is dining alone. Look at him. Isn't that sad? Not even a dog will come near him.

In a couple of weeks, my family will probably go back to the adult playground. You don't see dogs doing that. Some people never learn. As long as they don't take my $14.00 with them, I don't care what they do. I'm cheap that way. Besides, I'm saving it for something important, such as stock in a bone company.

Monday Morning

Monday morning. Time to go to work!

What can I write about today????

Hmmmmmmmm. No ideas yet.

Still no ideas. They say a young mind is a "blank slate". Mine doesn't get any "blanker" than this. Is this what they call "writer's block" or is it just the Monday morning blues? Am I uninspired, or just plain tired? Maybe if I sleep on it.... I think I'll take a nap.

Monday's are tough. The week should start on Tuesday!

Strange Beings

Hi Friends,

Wait 'til I tell you about this! When I was researching my family history I found some old photos of Cousin Koobus II when he went on a trip to upstate New York to visit some relatives. LOOK AT THESE GUYS!!!

Can anyone tell me what kind of dogs they are? I am very impressed.

They don't look like anybody I know. I've never seen anything like them before. They're enormous!!

(Actually, they are kinda cute.)

And there are so many of them. Poor Koobus II was WAY outnumbered.

What are these creatures? Does anybody know? How 'bout helping me out here guys? I'm just glad they don't live in my neighborhood. Why I'd be crushed into ground beef. And that's no bull!

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day to my birth father Bandit in Binghamton, NY, and to all the other fathers out there. I'll drink to that!!
Your daughter Koobie

(A belated Happy Mother's Day to my birth mother Molly, also in Binghamton. I didn't mean to forget you Ma. It's just that you know how it is between girls and their dads. You can really wrap them around your paws. Mothers don't fall for that as easily. They know exactly what you are up to.)

Sadie

Here I am with my best friend Sadie. She lives down by the stop sign. I visit her when I go for a walk and we play in her yard.

When it's hot, we just hang out in the shade. Then I call her "Shady Sadie".

Sadie, a Spanish sheep dog, is a rescue dog. Her daddy found her tied to a dumpster when she was around my age (7 months old.) That was about 2 years ago. Look at how happy she is. She always has a smile for you and a tail wag. What a sweetheart!

Ahh.... Summer

Summer is that time of year when one must relax and smell the flowers.

Even though they're not real...

Just another one of life's many disappointments...

(Actually, we do have a lot of real flowers. I just smelled the wrong ones.)

In Jail Again!

HELP!! Here I am, in jail again. Wonder what I did this time. It could have been any number if things. Maybe it was that big hole I dug. Or hiding a bone in the chair. I never seem to get bail or a trial. It's not "innocent until proven guilty". I am guilty until I prove myself innocent, and that is impossible since when I dig I have evidence all over me, in plain sight. They don't even need a warrent. Does anyone know where I can find a good canine lawyer? But remember, I have no income since I am still unemployed. Chief of Security is really only a title.

Uh oh, I think I'm stuck. GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!

Thunderstorm

Last night we had a thunderstorm and I didn't like it one bit. I barked as loud as I could at every thunder clap and still it went on and on. I did everything in my power to scare it off, but nothing worked. Finally, it went away and I was exhausted. I'll have to be more vigilant and do a better job of guarding the place. Trying to keep thunderstorms away is difficult. They just go where they want.

My cousin Koobus III used to pace around the house and shiver when he heard thunder. I can still see his tracks. When he got older, he would go hide during storms. (I think I found all his hiding places plus a few good ones of my own.) Although Koobus III never barked at thunderstorms like I do, he was not a wimp. He just had psychological issues when it came to thunder. Not me, though. Not yet....

My new motto is, "Oobie doobie, don't mess with Koobie!" I'm serious about this. Just look at my picture of me on guard duty. I'm real tough, and that's true. I will bark at anything that moves or makes noise -- from an ant to an elephant. It doesn't matter to me. Size means nothing.
